Yesterday, while driving to work, I realized I was exceeding the posted speed limit by about two miles per hour, as a car suddenly appeared in my rear view mirror. The driver honked his horn, and tore around me speeding off, probably 20 miles over the speed limit.
Now, for perspective, I was on a busy 7-lane ROAD- not a Highway. The center lane is for turning, the furthest right had frequent stops for folks turning into businesses. I was in the middle lane.
I thought, "Do the speed limit!" then realized I was speeding, too. Not by much, but speeding, none the less. This thought was immediately followed by, "But the police give you five miles per hour over the speed limit." That make it seem okay to do the speed limit plus five miles per hour. Where do you draw the line?
A speed limit is supposed to be the very fastest we are supposed to be traveling. We can go slower, but we are supposed to obey the law and stay under the speed limit.
My husband laughed when I told him my theory on speed limits- until he realized I wasn't joking. Then he explained how irritated he gets when people don't go the speed limit. I tried to reason with him, reminding him that on interstate highways they have a minimum speed limit. He begged me to be sure that I move over if someone comes up behind me honking. He didn't want me to be a victim of road rage.
Well, world, I promise not to be a "Left-Lane Bandit" and maintain the speed limit in the passing lane, but you ragers best realize you can go around me, because I'm going to be doing the speed limit. . . unless I'm late for work. But that's another story.
From my heart to you,
Happy Day
